Thanks Shilpa and also thanks for bringing up this question! It’s definitely worth documenting your vision early on. You’re right that over time your product strategy and team evolve, i.e. how you achieve the end goal evolves, especially as you iterate and find what works vs. doesn’t. But your North Star should be constant. When your North Star changes, that’s the formation of a new company. A good example is the history of Slack. The team started with a North Star in MMO gaming. When that didn’t work, some of the same team started Slack. Slack wasn’t an evolution from that North Star, rather it was like hitting the reset button and creating a new company.
Documenting the vision early on is also helpful in that it gives the team (especially as you grow) something to refer back to when evaluating whether an opportunity fits your vision — more on that coming in a post soon!
